SQL Server Locking, Blocking, and Deadlocking

SolarWinds sponsored on-demand webinar

Webcast Abstract

Every database and system administrator knows the four common resource bottlenecks: memory, CPU, disk, and network. But another bottleneck exists inside the database engine itself: concurrency.

Concurrency is a necessary function inside a SQL Server database. It helps ensure data integrity while users are accessing data at the same time. By default, concurrency uses a locking mechanism on the underlying data. Locking will lead to blocking, and blocking will result in time wasted and losses in productivity.

In this session presented by Microsoft Data Platform MVP Thomas LaRock, we’ll review the fundamentals of database concurrency, the differences between locking and blocking, and how to identify when concurrency issues exist. We’ll also discuss steps you can take to resolve performance issues and show you how SolarWinds® Database Performance Analyzer can help your troubleshooting efforts.

Register for this live event learn how to best manage locking as well as minimize blocking and deadlocks.
